The Magpie's Nest

The Magpie's Nest

The Magpie's Nest

This is the  first of the Trudi Larsson stories.

For Trudi, a feisty ten-year-old, getting to know her grandfather from Sweden opens up a previously unsuspected world of meaning and magic. Old Per Larsson is an enigma and Trudi's quest to uncover his real identity will lead her into mortal danger. But how can a curious child resist prying into the complexities of life? Or looking for her own place within them? Behind the safe, suburban world of Trudi's home, lies the historic backdrop of conflict and war which has moulded the lives of the people she loves - the inscape of her own private fears - and the call of an Arctic wilderness which has inspired the mythic beliefs of her ancestors. Here is an adventure story with serious thought beneath its skin.  Above all, here is an affirmation of the human values of tolerance and forgiveness. A celebration of conviviality, personified in the character of the irrepressible Auntie Barbara - and a tribute to the imagination, which reveals the secret worth of common things.
